Build a Better Foundation

May 17, 2026

In this concluding sermon of the Sermon on the Mount series, Pastor Aaron of Trace Church teaches from Matthew 7:24-29, framing the message as “Build a Better Foundation” and explaining that the wise and foolish builders had access to the exact same teaching, so the difference was never information but implementation. He argues that the core problem in Western Christianity is not a lack of knowledge but procrastination and spiritual passivity, illustrated by his observation that reading and even memorizing God’s word without living it out is like buying yoga pants and expecting a six-pack without exercising. Drawing on Psalm 1:1-3, he stresses that consistently applying Jesus’ teachings is what produces a foundation strong enough to survive storms, noting that the coming storms do not create the difference but reveal it, exposing whether people held onto grudges, worry, money, bitterness, and judgment or actually changed. He calls the church to be doers rather than merely listeners, warning that as Trace makes a bigger Kingdom impact, Satan is taking notice and developing a plan against it. He closes by shifting from personal application to corporate health, opening his church-building update for the potential new building into prayer and then walking through ten principles for building a better foundation as a church.
